Program Description: Mercer County K.I.D.S. (Keeping Involved Directly with Students) is a comprehensive life skills prevention program that involves 5th and 6th grade students, parents, schools and communities. The goals of Mercer County K.I.D.S. are to:

• Provide a fun, safe and healthy summer camp experience
• Assist in positive decision-making
• Support personal growth
• Strengthen peer relationships
• Teach conflict resolution strategies
• Increase self-esteem
• Enhance positive social skills
• Broaden cultural awareness
• Teach age appropriate alcohol and other drug facts including brain information
• Provide opportunities for parent involvement

Camp Registration Information: Students in 4th and 5th grade are recruited each May through classroom presentations. Registration information is sent home with students. Parents and guardians may register their child at the school during scheduled registration times. Participating schools are Sharon City, West Middlesex, Lakeview, Commodore Perry, Jamestown, and Reynolds. Camper must attend participating school to register for camp.

Camp Activities and Fieldtrips: Mercer County K.I.D.S. (often referred to as CAMP KIDS) is held at each participating school as a three week program during June, July and August. Daily lessons, experiments and activities are held at each elementary school. These daily activities are enhanced by family fieldtrips to the Scrappers Baseball Game, fishing areas and to the Mercer County Courthouse. Mercer County K.I.D.S. continues throughout the school year with Mercer County K.I.D.S. CLUB Meetings, including an end of year pizza party.
